The goal of this blog is to capture the stories of the obstacles I’ve overcome (both in life and on the running path) and the people I meet along the way that have truly inspired me.

One of my passions is working with the marginalized.  I especially have a passion for helping young people who need a little ‘leg up’ on life.  The impetus to create this blog came from my work with children who have incarcerated parents. For several years, I was involved and ran an organization in California called Get On The Bus, which accompanies children to see their parents in prison once a year for a special Mother’s/Father’s Day visit.

In 2010, I decided that I would run my second marathon in honor of Get On The Bus.  This blog became a forum for me to share my stories and the stories of those touched by the organization while I trained and eventually successfully completed the race.

A lot has changed since then.  I’m in a new time zone, a new house, added a couple of new Palmers to the family, and am working for another organization that continually changes the lives of others.  I am blessed to work for the St. Paul’s Community Development Corporation (SPCDC).  This organization has 7 programs that directly impact women, children and their families in Paterson, NJ and in Passaic County.  From food assistance to shelter, to programs and services within the public schools to job training, we are working to change lives.  Hence, in 2017, I relaunch this blog again to tell my story, their stories and the stories of other amazing folks who deserve some spotlight.  I am proud to announce that I will be dedicating my run in the United Half Marathon in NYC in March of 2017 to the St. Paul’s Community Development Corporation (SPCDC).   Please join me in my journey.

This blog was conceptualized and launched during jury duty. Who says nothing good comes out of public service?
